The Best Man in His World ... more
The Best Man in His World, based on a true story about a murder that happened in Greymouth, New Zealand in 1866. As this article notes, the victim, George Dobson, is related to me by marriage: my great aunt Rhoda married George Dobson's nephew Ralph. But the protagonist is William Henry James, the police inspector who found the body and investigated the murder. The murder was the first in a series of brutal murders by a gang known as the Burgess/Kelly gang. In February I spent two weeks in Greymouth following in the footsteps of Inspector James and taking photos and videos. I also learned about Inspector James' devastating family life, and his mistreatment by the government.
